MY ADVENTURE WITH CERAMICS

My adventure with ceramics began while I was writing a long novel. In the moments when I would stop and think about the next move in the text I was drawing a sort of patterns – never the same, but always in the same frame, 6×6 little squares. I don’t remember exactly the crucial moment when I realized that they were actually patterns for tiles, and that I have to learn to work with clay. Maybe I was driven by a deep need to come out of the sphere of words for a while and start something else, with different material.

I learned with the renowned Croatian ceramicist Mirjana Rajković, attending her course from 2012 to 2014, and continued as a member of her experimental workshop, where I’m still learning. Some of the objects I made I sent (without much ado) to open calls and competitions, and so it happened that they appeared at several exhibitions: Sesto Secondo Turno (Sesto di San Giovanni, Italy 2014), Zagreb Ex tempore (Zagreb, Galery Modulor, 2014, 2015), Croatian Ceramics Triennial (different locations, 2014-2016), Oltre l’arcobaleno – Concorso Ceramico in memoria di Maria Paduano  (San Lorenzello, Italy), Database of Textures (Galery Modulor, Zagreb 2016), International Exhibition of Miniatures (Zaprešić, 2016.) and at the exhibitions organized by the association of ceramicists Kerameikon (Varaždin): Ceramica multiplex (2016), Kerameikon and Friends (2017),  Japan as Inspiration (2018.)

Although I don’t give to ceramics as much time as I would wish, it brings some sort of balance and serenity into my life, inviting me to experiment over and over again.
